Theatre Coppell Announces Auditions for Big Fish

Updated: Mar 11

A field of flowers with text that says: Dream Bigger. Big Fish

Big Fish (The Musical)

Big Fish centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman who lives life to its fullest… and then some! Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him – most of all, his devoted wife, Sandra. But their son, Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales. Overflowing with heart, humor and spectacular stagecraft, Big Fish is an extraordinary musical that reminds us why we love going to the theatre – for an experience that’s richer, funnier and BIGGER than life itself.

  • Edward - An actor who can portray a man from ages 20-60. Edward is a charming, charismatic storyteller. A devoted, albeit absent, father who is nearing the end of his life and wanting to reconnect with his son. Ever a romantic he is absolutely devoted to his wife, Sandra. (Baritone)

  • Will - An actor in his late 20’s early 30’s. Will is a critical part of the story. He is an earnest, serious, thoughtful young man also wanting to reconnect with his father but unable to reconcile the man he remembers with the man that his father portrays to others. Will is a successful professional young man who is soon to be married with a child of his own on the way and yearns to understand his father before it is too late. (Tenor)

  • Sandra – An actor who can portray a woman from the ages of 18-50’s. She starts as a lovely, sweet young woman and when Edward sees her time literally stops. Throughout the story she becomes the perfect balance to Edward…patient, calm, and very loving. (Soprano)

  • The Witch – An actor anywhere between 20’s-30’s. Huge influence on Edward as a young man which changes his life. She needs to have a STRONG belt. (Mezzo-Soprano)

  • Karl (The Giant) – Edward's best friend. Karl is very shy, exceptionally intelligent, and hermit-like but has a quiet charisma. He needs a BOOMING voice, needs to be taller (not a giant but taller). The ability to walk on stilts is a MUST. (Bass)

  • Amos – Circus owner between the ages of 30’s-50’s. Eccentric, quirky owner of the circus that employs young Edward. Needs to have a strong, outgoing personality. (Baritone)

  • Jenny Hill – An actor who can also portray between the ages of 18-35. Starts out as young Edwards devoted, first girlfriend. Beautiful, naïve, and a bit of a dreamer. As an older Jenny she is tired, disillusioned version of her younger self. She is crucial though in helping Will understand Edward and Edwards motivations. (Mezzo-Soprano)

  • Young Will – An actor between the ages of 10-13. Doesn’t need to sing but strong acting required.

  • Josephine – An actor in her late 20’s early 30’s. Will’s wife who is also very successful bright and kind. She helps bridge the gap between the 2 men. No singing required but serious character acting required.

  • Don Price – An actor who can also portray between the ages of 18-45. Snarky bully from Edward's childhood…who also ends up as Sandra’s first fiancé. Bigger than life personality and obnoxious. (Baritone)

  • Zacky Price – An actor who can also portray between the ages of 15-40. Don’s little brother who just goes along with everything Don says. (Tenor)

  • Dr. Bennett – An actor who can portray an older, warm, frank, soft-spoken longtime friend and physician of Edward. Needs a serious actor. No singing required.

Ensemble:
  • Red Fang – Assassin who needs to be agile for fight scene

  • Alabama Lambs – 2 of Sandra’s friends. Performs at the circus. Strong singing and dancing ability needed.

  • Fisherman – Strong singing and dancing ability.

  • Various Circus performers – Strong man, fire-breather, jugglers, dancers
