The Fantasticks

A musical about two young lovers, Matt and Luisa, who are tricked into falling in love by their fathers, who stage a feud to bring them together. The story explores themes of love, disillusionment, and the complexities of relationships, as the young couple's love is tested and they eventually find their way back to each other with a deeper understanding of love.

Appointments will be given priority, and walk-ins will be taken as time allows.
Please have a song prepared either from the show or one that will show off your talent.
Please bring a printed copy of the sheet music (double-sided) in your correct key for the musician to play for you.
Auditions will include readings from the script (sides will be available at the audition)
Those auditioning should be prepared to list all conflicts or potential conflicts and availability for the rehearsal period as specified in the Audition notice
Background Check [Casting policy]: Beginning October 2025, the City of Coppell may require Theatre Coppell to conduct background checks for ALL volunteers, actors, and crew over the age of 18. Theatre Coppell will pay the cost of the background check for those who have not completed a recent background check.
Rehearsals:
The first read-through and rehearsals will begin Monday, January 5, 2026
Rehearsals are generally held on weeknights (Mon. Tues. Thurs. Fri.) from 7:00pm – 10:00pm, and Sunday afternoons from 2:00pm – 5:00pm
A detailed rehearsal schedule will be made available upon the completion of casting

Performance dates: February 6 - 22 (Friday & Saturday evenings @ 8pm & Sunday matinees @ 2:30pm)

The Narrator (El Gallo)
A rakish, handsome, sophisticated gallant and narrator of the show. He is warm, cordial, and inviting to the audience but has his own darker moments. He aids the performers in orchestrating the story.

The Girl (Luisa)
A button maker’s young and pretty daughter, she is a romantic idealist who falls in love with Matt. She is naive, yet honest and tender.

The Boy (Matt)
An innocent, young man who is searching for love and adventure. A bright guy, but naive and even foolish at times, approaching situations with false bravado.

The Boy’s Father (Hucklebee)
A boisterous former Navy man and meticulous gardener who fakes a fight with Bellomy in hopes of getting their children to fall in love.

The Girl’s Father (Bellomy)
A fastidious button maker and also a picky gardener who fakes a fight with Hucklebee in hopes of getting their children together.

The Actor (Henry)
An aging, over-the-top Thespian who specializes in reciting Shakespeare, he is a commedia clown; his world is the stage, and he knows no other reality.

The Man Who Dies (Mortimer)
Henry’s goofy sidekick and another former actor who specializes in stage deaths. A commedia clown, his world is the stage, and he does not live in reality.

The Mute
A speechless presence who watches, acts as the wall, and deals with props; the “invisible” stage assistant.
Should be able to easily assist in the story or fade into the background unnoticed.
